2019 Season Preview: Impact Players- Catchers
Kody Huff- Horizon HS: The top catching prospect in the state, Kody will spend much of his time on the field for Horizon at shortstop until another solution is found. Behind the plate he is athletic with soft hands, receives the baseball well and has good arm strength. He’s also a natural leader who controls the game extremely well. He has added a lot of quality strength since last year and should produce some power noise with the bat. A member of the Reds Area Code team as well as the Junior Sunbelt Team, Kody has signed with Stanford.
Trey Newman- Pinnacle HS: A Utah Valley signee, Trey started for the Pioneers last season as well as the Canyon Thunder in the summer and fall. He’s scrappy behind the dish, has great in game demeanor and handles the bat well.
Michael “Mikey” Quinones- Cesar Chavez HS: After a big junior season where he hit .512 for the Champions, Mikey played for TRex at a number of events in the summer and the fall. He really caught my eye at the AZDR Fall Showcase where he handled himself very well behind the plate and showed a lot of juice swinging the bat from the left side. He has great leadership intangibles as well. Mikey recently committed to New Mexico State.
Kiko Romero- Canyon del Oro HS: One of the top left handed bats in the 2019 class, Kiko is a very capable defender behind the dish as well. He earned 1st team All Region honors as well as 2nd team All 4A Conference. Kiko has committed to Central Arizona
Ethan Snodgrass- Sunrise Mountain: Ethan is one of the state’s best offensive catchers. He hit .453 with 10 doubles and 4 homers in 2018. Ethan was a member of the Arizona Junior Sunbelt team and was named 1st Team All Region and 2nd Team All 4A Conference.
Kyle Hasler- Hamilton HS: Kyle was a key performer down the stretch for the Huskies last season. He is one of the better throwing backstops in the state, and swings the bat with some op. He homered 3 times last season while hitting .392.
Tyler Cotto- Valley Vista HS: Tyler hit .380 last season for the Monsoon with 10 doubles and 2 bombs. He was named first team all-region. Tyler has signed with Austin Peay University.
Daniel Johnson- Mesquite HS: One of the cleanest receivers in the state, Daniel handles one of the top pitching staffs in the state and to a man they all sing his praises. He hit .338 last season and was a second team All- Region selection.
Tony Sortino- Horizon HS: Tony is part of the three headed catching monster at Horizon, with Kody Huff and junior Nick Gore. He’ll play third when he doesn’t catch. One of the top power bats in the class, he hit .310 with 9 homers and 11 doubles and was named first team All Region. Tony is a New Mexico State signee.

Stephen Canizales- Flagstaff HS: Stephen had a big year as a soph, hitting .435 with 7 doubles. He has some buggy whip to the swing and is a solid defensive catcher.
