AZDR Prospect Snapshot: Thunderbird’s Haydn McGeary (2018 Uncommitted)
One of the top uncommitted players in the Arizona Class of 2018 is Thunderbird Catcher/ 1st Baseman Haydn McGeary.
Haydn has been one of Arizona’s most explosive and consistent offensive performers over the last 2 years. As a sophomore Haydn burst out by hitting .442 with 8 homers and 44 RBIs. He followed that up with an almost identical junior year where he hit .452, knocking in 38 runs and homering 7 times.
At 6-4 225 pounds, Haydn is an imposing figure at the plate. He generates big time bat speed from a balanced set up and a leg lift stride. He gets the barrel in the zone early and does a very good job of using the whole field. He also does a great job of putting the ball in play, punching out only 7 times in 110 plate appearances last spring.
Defensively Haydn continues to improve. He’s a big catcher who sets up with a dropped left knee behind the plate. He receives well and has good arm strength.
He’s also a good defender at first base with plenty of offensive game to appeal to most college programs.
Haydn was named 1st Team All 4A Conference in 2017, and was named the 4A Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
In the classroom, Haydn is a rock star, with a 4.76 weighted GPA. He has posted a 1270 2 part SAT and an ACT score of 28. He is ranked in the top 5% of his class and has been on the Principal’s List for the past 3 years.
Hayden is also very active in the community, volunteering with several organizations including Boys Team Charity.
He would like to pursue a major in business or communications.
Haydn is uncommitted at this time, and has been taking college visits.
Wherever he lands, Haydn McGeary will be a big time contributor both on the field and in the classroom.
