Brophy Edges Horizon
Brophy got some solid mound work and did just enough offensively to take a narrow 3-2 win over Horizon under the lights at Opus Field.
The Broncos got on the board in the second when a Johnny Dowse base knock scored Cam Glosser.
In the third Brophy extended the lead to 3-0 when Troy Weinstein singled in Michael Diaz and Will Worthington.
Horizon cut the lead in the 4th on an Alec Schillingburg RBI knock, and pulled within one on a 5th inning solo missile from Kody Huff into the canal past the left field fence.
But the Brophy mound work kept Horizon at bay the rest of the way.
Nick Tiedemann started and went 4 1/3 innings for the W, scattering 7 hiots with 3 Ks.
Jacob Wickey tossed 2 1/3 scoreless in relief to earn a hold, and Bryce Michael earned the save, retiring one hitter for the final out.
Weinstein and Andrew Talamante were both 3-3 for Brophy.
Bobby Koch had a pair of hits for the Huskies.
JD McLaughlin lined a single to left field in the bottom of the 8th to score Dustin Bermudez with the walk off game winner as Hamilton defeated Desert Vista 7-6.
Hamilton trailed 4-0 but hung a 6 spot in the 4th to take the lead.
DV would tie things in the top of the 7th on RBI singles from Jacob Cavaleri and Brandon Schlabach.
The Huskies totaled 13 hits to DV’s 11.
Michael Brueser was 3-5 with a double. Britt Graham was 3-4 with a double and Bermudez and McLaughlin both had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Eli Ankeney was 3-4 with a homer and tossed 4 1/3 innings for the Thunder.
Schlabach was 3-3 for DV.
Sophomore Kyle Ponzon earned the W in relief of Shane Murphy, working 2 1/3 innings and allowing 2 runs.
Desert Mounatin jumped out to an earl 6-0 2nd ining lead and held on to defeat Basha 6-4.
Jack Silverman was 2-4 with a bomb and 3 RBIs for the Wolves.
Paul Sachen had a pair of hits including a double.
Garrett Elwell tossed 3 innings, allowing 4 runs for the win.
Max Walker threw 3 scoreless innings in relief.
O’Connor traveled to Mesa and took a 13-0 6 inning win on Tuesday.
Cal Lambert fanned 7 in a complete game effort.
