Casteel Walks Off Desert Mountain With Big 7th Inning
On a day much better suited for kite flying than for baseball, Casteel’s Marcus Lucas punctuated an 8 run 7th inning with a walk off grand slam to defeat Desert Mountain 16-13.
With the wind howling out to center field, Desert Mountain took command early with a 7 run second inning.
The two teams traded 4 run innings in the third and 4th to make it 11-4, and Casteel cut it to 11-8 with another 4 spot in the 5th.
In the 7th , DM added to their lead, scratching out a pair of runs to make it 13-8 going into the bottom of the 7th.
The Colts got a lead off double from CJ Burrell and consecutive singles from Connor Hatch and Jeff Sanchez to score Burrell.
Eli Ludwig then legged out an infield knock and Jaxson Carrasco drew a walk to load the bases.
Max Callarman followed with a double that scored Sanchez and Ludwig, and when Jared Anderson reached on a dropped third strike, the bags were juiced again for Lucas.
On a 2-1 count the senior launched a fly ball over the wall in right to complete the comeback.
Lucas finished the day 3-5 with the grand slam and 2 runs scored.
Carrasco and Luke Thompson also homered for the Colts.
