Corona del Sol Tops Liberty in Boras Classic
Nick Schobinger scattered 3 hits in 6 innings of work and fanned 8 as Corona del Sol took a 4-1 win over Liberty in the first day of the Boras Classic.
Brian Kalmer led off the 2nd inning with a solo bomb to center field to get the Aztecs on the board.
CDS added to the lead in the 3rd when Cade Verdusco singled and came around to score on a Hunter Haas knock.
Liberty broke thru with a solo run in the 5th when Luke Pauga reached on an error and later scored on a fielder’s choice ground out by Christian Contreras.
The Aztecs padded the lead in the bottom of the 5th when Bryan Webb doubled in Wyatt Berry and Verdusco to make it 4-1.
Sophomore lefty Trevor Toland threw well for Liberty, allowing 3 hits and a pair of runs over 4 innings.
Mountain Pointe 16 Nogales 6 (6 Inn)
Mountain Pointe pounded out 14 hits in a 16-6 mercy rule win over Nogales in the Boras Classic.
Joey Cammaratta and Nick Wallerstedt both went deep.
Carson Tucker was 3-3 with 3 runs scored.
JR Flores, Devon Dixon and Connor Murphy all had 2 hits.
Nathan Ward tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief with 6 Ks for the Pride.
Jesus “Chuy” Lopez homered and drove in 3 for Nogales.
Hamilton 10 Basic (NV) 4
Hamilton got long balls from Michael Brueser, Easton Erwin and Tyler Wilson in a 10-4 win over Basic in the Boras Classic.
Wilson added a double and was 3-4 with 3 RBIs for the Huskies.
Shane Murphy punched out 9 in 6 innings on the hill to get the W.
Mountain Vista (CO) 5 Chaparral 2
Chaparral fell to Mountain VIsta 5-2 in the Boras Classic.
Firebird pitching only allowed 6 hits but surrendered 9 walks on the day.
The Firebird offense could only manage 4 knocks with Connor Jones’ double the sole extra base hit.
Cottonwood (UT) 7 Horizon 2
Horiozn could only manage 3 hits against Cottonwood pitching and the Huskies fell 5-2 in the Boras Classic.
Sam Page punched out 7 in 5 innings on the bump.
Legend (CO) 5 Mountain Ridge 2
Mountain Ridge trailed 3-0 after 2 innings and fell 5-2 to Legend in day one of the Boras Classic.
The Lions outhit Legend 7 to 5 but left 13 men on base and defensively Ridge committed 4 errors.
Garrett Olson homered for Ridge.
Zach Rogers allowed only 3 hits and one earned run for the Lions.
Mesquite 11 Bishop Gorman (NV) 0 (5 Inn)
TJ Clarkson tossed a 5 inning shutout as Mesquite mercy ruled Bishop Gorman 11-0.
Clarkson allowed only 3 singles and fanned 3.
Jaden Orozco was 2-3 with a dinger and 6 RBIs.
Arcadia 7 Verrado 6 (9 Inn)
Sophomore Jayden Salazar dropped a base hit into left field to score James Kent with the walk off game winner in the bottom of the 9th as ARcadia edged Verrado 7-6 in the Boras Classic.
Salazar, Carter Hain and Crew Edwards all had 2 hit games for the Titans.
Scott Wheeler tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief for Arcadia.
Rocky King fanned 7 and allowed only 2 unearned runs for the Vipers.
Basha 10 Shadow Ridge 0 (6 Inn)
Basha moved to 7-0 in power point games with a 10-0 victory over Shadow Ridge.
Sophomore catcher Tanner Smith was 2-4 with a bomb and 4 RBIs.
Cam Laliberte was 3-3 with a double and 3 runs scored.
Jake Greenbank tossed a 6 inning complete game, allowing only 2 hits and fanning 3.
Pinnacle 13 North 1 (5 Inn)
Dylan Doughtery went 3-4 with a double and triple as Pinnacle took a run rule win over North High 10-0.
Trey Newman doubled, tripled and drove in 2 runs.
Jackson Moltz scattered 4 hits over 5 innings and struck out 8 to get the win.
