GBG Takes Desert Fall Classic Crown
GBG Arizona 2021’s won the Desert Fall Classic Tournament in Las Vegas, NV this past weekend. They played in the 15U division and the tourney consisted of 24 teams from 9 different states (AZ, NV, CA, NM, MN, CO, UT, WA, and TX).
GBG Arizona 2021’s went 7-0 on the weekend and capped it off with a 4-0 shutout win against Showtime Baseball from Washington in the championship game.
Scott Wheeler (Arcadia) threw 6 innings in the championship game, allowing zero runs and one hit while striking out three. Jack Duncan (CA) had two hits, one run, and an RBI in the final.
GBG Arizona 2021’s also got solid pitching performances from Cayden Collins (Joy Christian) in the semifinal game and Carson Baker (Liberty) in a decisive pool play game. GBG Arizona 2021’s were paced offensively by Scott Wheeler (Arcadia) who hit .533 during the tournament and Ben Carlo (Pinnacle) hit .529.
Michael Riley (Pinnacle) led the team with 9 RBI’s and Kaden Schiefelbein (Liberty) had 6 SB’s.
GBG Arizona 2021’s displayed stellar defense throughout the tournament, allowing an average of just over one run a game. Aaron Limon (Liberty), Andrew Biddle (Liberty), and Cayden Collins (Joy Christian) were solid up the middle, while Scott Wheeler (Arcadia) and Kaden Schiefelbein (Liberty) flashed leather at the corners all weekend. John Lauinger (Pinnacle) made some spectacular catches in the outfield. GBG Arizona 2021’s has now won three big tournaments this fall and their overall record is 20-1.
