Hamilton, Pinnacle Fight To A Draw
In a re-match of last year’s 6A championship game Pinnacle and Hamilton ran out of daylight before a winner could be determined as the two teams played to a 4-4 tie in a suspended game. The contest will be resumed at a later date to be determined at the top of the 8th inning.
The teams were tied at 2 entering the 4th when Pinnacle’s Trey Newman doubled with one out, and Zack Hull followed with a single. Griffin Hamel then walked to load the bases, bringing Jacob Ferguson to the plate. The senior center fielder grounded a ball through the right side for a single., scoring Newman and Hull to give the Pioneers a 4-2 lead.
Pinnacle starter Mason Gray struggled with his command all day, walking 6 in his 5 innings of work. However, the Huskies could only muster 4 hits off Gray, and the senior departed with a 4-2 lead.
Ty Woessner came on in relief for the ‘neers to start the 6th, and after 1 out, Hamilton’s Isaiah Adams drew a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Dustin Bermudez RBI single.
In the bottom of the 7th. JD McLaughlin led off with another walk, but was hosed at second base on an attempted steal by Pinnacle catcher Newman.
Hayden Baker then walked, and freshman Brock Selvidge came on for Baker as a pinch runner.
Kyle Hasler would single to right field , where Zach Hull uncorked a strong throw to third that appeared to beat Selvidge to the bag, but the runner was ruled safe.
Cody Hedalen’s sac fly would score Selvidge with the tying run.
Newman and CJ Schauwecker each had two doubles for Pinnacle.
Hasler was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs for the Huskies.
Shane Murphy started for Hamilton and worked 5 innings, allwoing 4 runs, 3 of which were earned.
Tyler Dubuque worked two scoreless innings in relief.
Junior left hander Danny Sotelo tossed a five inning 1 hit shutout as Corona del Sol mercy ruled Desert Ridge 13-0.
Jack Schobinger was 3-3 with a triple and 4 RBIs for the Aztecs.
Brian Kalmer added a pair of doubles and knocked in 2 runs.
Desert Vista took a 5-3 win over Brophy Prep.
DV starter Eli Ankeney punched out 11 in 6 innings on the bump to earn the win.
Tyler Magin worked the 7th for the save.
Zac Paquette was 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs, and Dylan Cuenca was 3-3 with a pair of doubles.
Mason Kokodynski was 2-3 with a double for Brophy.
Perry scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on a Michael Zinter double and a two RBI single from Adam Parra to take a 6-3 victory over Westwood.
Caden Christopherson and CJ Valdez combined on the mound. Valdez tossed 3 scoreless, hitless innings for the W.
Jimmy Villa tossed 5 2/3 innings for Westwood and allowed only 4 hits.
Manny Collier had a pair of hits for the Warriors.
Zak Elms was 3-4 with 3 doubles and 6 RBIs as O’Connor defeated Boulder Creek 15-5 in 5 innings.
Jayce Easley was 2-4 and swiped 3 bags for the Eagles, and Mason Skaugrud added a pair of hits.
The game between Basha and Mountain Pointe was called for darkness in the middle of the 7th inning after MP scored 4 runs in the top half of the inning to take a 10-7 lead.
By rule, the score reverts back to the end of the 6th inning, and Basha was awarded a 7-6 win.
Seth Beckstead was 2-4 with 3 RBIs for Basha.
Ko Thomas homered for the Bears.
Desert Mountain took a 12-2 win over Westview.
Anthony Caraballo was 3-5 with a double and 3 runs scored. Aiden Storm was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBIs and Paul Sachen added a pair of hits.
Jonathan Hoebing threw 5 innings and allowed only 4 hits with 6 Ks to earn the W.
Riley Pagel went 4-4 with 2 doubles,a triple and 4 RBIs to lead Red Mountain to a 12-2 win over Valley Vista in 6 innings.
Andrew Hayes earned the win on the hill with 4 solid innings and went 3-3 with a triple and 3 RBIs.
Sabino mercy ruled Sunnyside 12-1 in 6 innings.
Tyler Wiltshire was 2-5 with a bomb and 2 RBIs, and fanned 8 in 6 innings on the hill for the W.
