Hamilton Takes Down Top Seeded Toros
Bermudez tossed 6 innings, scattering 6 hits with 11 punch outs.
The Toros started the scoring in the bottom of the first when McKay Barney led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Sean Rimmer knock.
Rimmer, MVT’s mound starter, held the Huskies at bay for the first 2 frames before Hamilton got on the board.
In the bottom of the 3rd the Huskies sent 9 men to the plate, scoring 4 runs on an RBI single from Bermudez, a sac fly from Michael Brueser, a n RBI triple from JD McLaughlin and a Hayden Baker base hit.
The Huskies managed 10 hits on the day, with freshman lead off hitter Brock Selvidge going 3-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
McLaughlin went 2-4 with a pair of triples, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
The Huskies will advance to face Mountain Ridge and Matthew Liberatore on Friday.
Mountain Ridge 5 Red Mountain 0
Junior right hander Zach Martinez threw 6 innings of one hit , shutout ball as Mountain Ridge blanked Red mountain 5-0.
Martinez had a rocky start, walking the first 3 batters in the top of the first.
After a spirited mound visit from Coach Artie Cox, Martinez manned up and proceeded to punch out the next 3 hitters and never looked back.
Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the second when a Brock Peery single scored jake Robson.
Ridge would take control in the fifth, scoring 4 runs with a Preston Godfrey 2 RBI triple being the big blow.
Skyline 7 Brophy 1
Skyline broke open a close game with a 5 run fifth inning and took a 7-1 victory over Brophy Prep.
Cole Yocum was nails on the mound once again. The senior lefty scattered 6 hits over 6 1/3 innings and allowed a solo run with 4 Ks.
Jan Rollon led the Skyline attack with a homer, a double, 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
Yocum helped his cause by going 2-4 from the lead off spot.
Patrick Herrera was 3-3 with an RBI.
O’Connor 4 Westwood 3 (8 Inn)
O’Connor needed overtime to take a narrow 4-3 win over Westwood.
Jayce Easley smoked a lead off triple in the bottom of the 8th, and scored on a walk off sac fly by Greg Bozinovich to give SDO the win.
O’Connor freshman Barrett Skaugrud and Westwood junior Jimmy Villa locked up in a pitchers duel.
Skaugrud went 7 innings and allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs.
Villa also threw 7, surrendering 4 hits while fanning 9. He also helped his cause with a long ball.
