Liberty Holds Off Chaparral
Liberty held off a 7th inning Chaparral rally and took a narrow 2-1 victory in the 5A State Tourney.
Isaiah Montoya tossed 5 innings of shutout ball with 9 Ks to earn the W.
JD Wadleigh fanned 5 in 2 innngs t pick up the save.
Chaparral made it interesting in the 7th. After two quick punch outs to start the inning, Wadleigh walked Will Fuenning, and Trevor Stone followed with a base hit.
Trevor Long then coaxed another free pass to load the bases. A passed ball would score Fuenning, with the tying and lead runs moving to scoring position. But Wadleigh induced a ground ball to Jace Johnson at 2B for the third and final out.
Chaparral’s Mason Dillow was solid on the hill, allowing only 4 hits in 4 1/3 with 4 Ks.
Queen Creek 11 Mesquite 1 (5 Inn)
Queen Creek hung a 5 spot in the first inning and rolled to an 11-1 win over top ranked Mesquite in 5A action.
Mesquite starter Davis Heller struggled with his command, walking 4 in 2 innings of work and leaving with a 6-1 deficit.
This was a Bulldog kind of night, with 7 player collecting hits.
Lead off man Kevon Jackson was 2-2 with a walk and 3 runs scored.
Colton Cassinalli threw a 5 inning complete game, allowing 3 hits and a solo run.
Notre Dame 16 Flowing Wells 8
Notre Dame scored 14 runs in the first 3 innings and defeated Flowing Wells 16-4.
Joe Terlizzi was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Tyler Cranston was 2-3 with a homer and scored 3 runs.
Jarrett Pille threw 3 innings for the W.
Verrado 7 Buena 3
Verrado broke up a 3-3 tie with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-3 win over Buena in 5A play.
Colton Keith and Brady Bulger were both 2-3 with 2 runs scored for the Vipers.
Hayden Brown had a solo homer.
Bryan McInsey got the win in relief throwing 2 innings.
Starter Rocky King allowed 2 runs in 4 innngs of work.
Sunrise Mountain 7 Canyon del Oro 6
Sunrise Mountain edged Canyon del Oro 7-6 in 4A state tournament play.
Tyler Pruitt was 3-5 with 2 doubles and scored twice.
EJ Sua and Caleb Thomason each had 2 hits.
Trevor Pruitt got the win on the hill, tossing 3 innings with 4 Ks.
Catalina Foothills 14 Thunderbird 1 (5 Inn)
Catalina Foothills sent 17 men to the plate ina 12 run 4th inning and rolled to a 14-1 win over Thunderbird.
Matt Cullen was 3-4 with 4 RBIs.
Chris Kowalcek had a double and knocked in 4.
Cole Altherr was 3-3 with 2 doubles ad 2 RBIs, and Alec larson knocked in 3 on a 2-4 day.
Will Saul allowed one unearned run in 5 innings for the W

Salpointe catholic edged top ranked Nogales 4-2 in a pitchers duel.
Sergio Lopez went 6 1/3 for the Lancers, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs to earn the win.
Nogales’ Mark Lopez tossed 6 innings , allowing 5 hits and 3 runs.
Efrain Cervantes was 2-2 for Salpointe.
