Marcos Tops Desert Edge in Walk Off Fashion

Marcos de Niza scored the walk off game winner on an infield error in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 12-11 win over Desert Edge.

The Padres got a pair of singles to start the inning from Alex Denham and Nate Meyer. Zach Paiz then grounded a ball to second that was misplayed allowing Denham to score the game winner.

After the 2 teams traded 3 spots in the first inning, Desert Edge put up 4 runs in the second to go up 7-3.
Clifford McCrumb’s no-doubter 3 run blast (complete with Bautista-esque bat flip) was the big blow of the inning.

In the 4th the Scorpions added on, plating a pair of runs on a Elias NietoLopez parachute pop fly single.

The Padres battled back in the bottom of the 4th, loading the bases on a pair of walks and an infield error. With one out Denham scorched a liner over the center fielder’s head for a bases clearing 3 RBI triple. Denham would score on a Meyer ground out and it was 9-7.

In the 5th DE got an RBI knock from Andrew Hoel, and added another run in the 6th to go up 11-7.

In the bottom of the 6th Marcos loaded the bases courtesy of 3 walks. With one out sophomore Rafael Armenta stepped in a sent a fly ball over the fence in left for a grand slam to tie the score at 11.

The two teams combined for 26 hits with Marcos (12 hits) also taking advantage of 10 walks by Scorpion pitching and 4 DE errors.

Denham ended the day 2-3 at the plate with a triple, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

For Desert Edge, Hoel, Eduardo Ronquillo and NietoLopez all had 3 hits.


Coconino 4 Cactus 3

Trevor Sevier worked 6 2/3 innings, scattering 7 hits and allowing one earned run as Coconino took a 4-3 win over Cactus.

Tyler Walters was 2-4 with a homer and a double.
Jordan Lucero was also 2-4 for the Panthers.

For Cactus Mitch Downing and Dustin Corrales each had a pair of hits and Ernie Romero tossed a complete game, allowing only 5 hits in a losing effort.




Apollo 7 North Canyon 1

Alex Palma was 4-4 with a double, a triple, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored as Apollo dropped North Canyon 7-1.

Victor Flores threw 5 innings and allowed 5 hits and a solo run to pick up the W.
Roberto Valdez threw 2 scoreless frames in relief.


Vista Grande 17 Catalina Foothills 1 (5 Inn)

Vista Grande hammered out 17 hits to take a 17-1 mercy rule win over Catalina Foothills.

Anthony Bolanos was 3-5 with a double, triple, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Marco Ozuna punched out 7 and allowed only 3 hits in 4 innings of work.
Guapo Armenta worked a scoreless 5th.


Shadow Mountain 11 Youngker 1 (6 Inn)

Shadow Mountain got long balls from Jonatahn Gayton and Jason Datta en route to an 11-1 win over Youngker.

Gayton drove in 4 runs on the day.
Datta was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Brandon Lewis was 2-4 and scored twice.

Dawson Davis tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed one unearned run for the Matadors to get the W.
