Mountain Ridge Edges Basha
Zach Martinez allowed only one run in 6 1/3 innings on the bump as Mountain Ridge topped Basha 3-1.
Ridge opened the scoring in the top of the second when Keegan Stancato led off with a single, moved to second on Tate Childers’ sac bunt and scored on a line drive single to right from Garrett Olson.
Ridge added on in the 4th when Childers led off with a double and moved to third on AJ Singer’s sacrifice.
Basha elected to bring the infield in, and Olson shot a hard grounder past 1st basemen Cam Laliberte to make it 2-0.
Two batters later, with 2 out, Travis Warriner slammed a double to left field, putting runners on second and third.<bR. Kyler Stancato was next, and the junior center fielder singled on a hard grounder to Laliberte to make it 3-0.
Basha finally broke through in the bottom of the 4th when Laliberte stroked a one out single and moved to third on an infield knock by Singer.
Laliberte would score on a passed ball and it was 3-1 Ridge.
Martinez battled into the 7th before giving way to side-armer Brock Peery, who record the last 2 outs for the save.
Basha’s Jonathan Weiss threw very well, working 6 innings and scattering 8 hits with 6 Ks.
Hamilton 1 Liberty 0
Dustin Bermudez tossed a complete a game 3 hit shutout with 6Ks as hamilton squeeked past Liberty 1-0.
Bermudez’ performance overshadowed the effort by Liberty starter Mitchell Schooler, who was nothing short of sensational.
Schooler took a no hitter into the 5th inning before Brandon Hill lined a 2 out single to left field. It was the only Hamilton knock of the night.
The game’s only run came in the bottom of the second inning when JD McLaughlin led off with a walk, stole second and third and scored on Will Maxey’s sacrifice fly.
Liberty threatened in the top of the 7th. With one out Kaden Schiefelbein reached on an infield error.
Jace Derosier followed with a liner to center for the second out, and Trevor Saire shot a double to right field. With Schielfelbein racing around third, Coach Chris Raymond put up the stop sign leaving the tying and lead runners at second and third.
Bermudez then clutched up, getting a called third strike punch out of Christian Contreras to end the game.
Hamilton will face off against Mountain Ridge on Friday night at Hohokam Stadium.
Corona del Sol 6 Desert Vista 2
Junior lefty Bryan Webb worked 5 strong innings, allowing 4 hits and one unearned run with 5 Ks as Corona del Sol topped region rival Desert Vista 6-2.
The Aztecs scored twice in the second third and 5th innings to lead 6-0 before the Thunder broke through with a pair in the 6th.
Hunter Haas had a 3-3 day at the plate with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Matteo Baker had a second inning RBI triple and Ben Click knocked in 2 runs for the Aztecs.
Red Mountain 12 Mountain View 4
Red Mountain pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of 8 walks and four mountain View errors as the Mountain Lions dropped the #1 seeded Toros 12-4.
RM had lost 5 straight to the Toros dating back to 2017, but the Lions came out blazing, scoring 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings to go up 6-1 after 3.
Daevion King earned the W on the mound, working 44 innings and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
Sophomore RJ Elmore tossed 3 scoreless, hitless innings in relief to seal the deal.
Connor Watson was 3-5 with a double and 3 RBIs.
Ryan Campos was 3-4 with an RBI and Kai Murphy and TJ Adams each knocked in 2 runs.
Red Mountain and Corona del Sol will meet on Friday night at Diablo Stadium.
