Pinnacle Rallies to Defeat Mountain Ridge
Pinnacle overcame an early deficit and got great work from their bullpen in an 8-7 victory over Mountain Ridge.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 first inning lead when Nolan Brooks led off the game with a double and came around to score on a single by Trey Newman.
Ridge answered back in the bottom half, hanging a 4 spot off ‘neer starter Jackson Moltz.
Brock Peery doubled in a run. Tate Childers lined another double to the wall in left, plating 2 runs and scoring on a fielders choice grounder to make it 4-1.
In the top of the 2nd Pinnacle took advantage of some shaky infield D to plate 3 more and tie the game. Michael Riley reached on an infield single and Jack Jepson followed with a grounder that was misplayed.
Brooks then sacrificed the runners over, and Jon Lauinger grounded a ball to short that went through the five hole, scoring Riley and Jepson to make it 4-3.
Newman was next, and the senior catcher lined a shot to left for a double moving Lauinger to third. He would score on a sac fly RBI by Kolby Kmetko.
Ridge would load the bases in the 2nd on a hit batsman, a bunt single and a walk, ending Moltz’s day. Junior lefty Michael Modrick came on in relief and promptly walked in a run, but then settled down and got Childers to fly out, scoring another run to give the Lions a 6-4 lead. Modrick would retire the next 2 hitters in order.
In the top of the third, Nick Bommararito and Michael Riley were both hit by pitches to start off the inning. But Ridge starter Zach Rogers got a strike out and a ground out, bringing Brooks to the dish with 2 outs and runners at 1st and 2nd.
Ridge would then go the bullpen, bringing in Utah commit Cayden Collins, and Brooks would waste no time greeting the sophomore.
The senior second baseman jumped on the first offering and lined a shot over the wall in left for a 3 run bomb and a 7-6 Pinnacle lead.
Pinnacle brought in senior Max Kendall to start the 3rd inning, and the 6-6 right hander would quiet the Ridge offense for the rest of the game.
Kendall tossed 4 innings,allowing only 1 hit and an unearned run on a swinging strike three in the dirt. He struck out 6 and walked 2, sitting 87-88 with the fastball and having excellent command of a late breaking 11-5 curveball.
Brooks was 2-2 with a homer, double and 3 RBIs.
Newman was 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
For Ridge, Childers knocked in 3 runs and Peery drove in 2.
Desert Mountain 12 North Canyon 2
Desert Mountain scored 4 runs in each of the first 3 innings and rolled to a 12-2 win over North Canyon.
Wes Kath had a grand slam for the Wolves.
Anthony Caraballo was 2-2 with a double, triple 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs.
Zack Stewart added a solo homer for DM.
Connor Elwell threw 3 innings to earn the W.
Seth Siebels worked 2 scoreless in relief.
Greenway 7 Mingus 1
Greenway broke open a 1-1 tie with a 6 run 6th inning to defeat Mingus 7-1.
The Demons would get help from 4 walks and an infield error in the 6th.
Michael Ortega had a 2 RBI double, and Gerry Lopez, Connor Gibbs and Arther Decker all had RBIs.
Decker tossed a complete game for the Demons, scattering 4 hits , allowing one run and fanning 5.
Desert Vista 10 Mesquite 7
Desert Vista broke up a tie game with 3 runs in the top of the 7th to defeat Mesquite 10-7.
Beau Ankeney homered and drove in 4 runs for the Thunder.
Brandon Childers also went deep and had 2 RBIs.
Tyler Bauer was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.
Childers would get the win in relief with 2 scoreless frames and 2 punch outs.
Grant Gorrell doubled, homered and knocked in 4 runs for Mesquite.
Cactus Shadows 14 Cienega 7
Cactus Shadows broke open a tight game with a 6 run 6th inning to down Cienega 14-7.
Peyton McGregor homered and knock in 4 runs for the Falcons.
Collin Summers was 3-4 with a homer and 3 RBIs.
Trace Laudenschlager threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed only one hit with 5 walks and 4 runs to earn the W.
Notre Dame 11 Gilbert 10
Brian Leon singled in Max Zdimal with the walk off game winner in the bottom of the 7th to send Notre Dame to an 11-10 win over Gilbert.
The 2 teams combined to walk 14 batters on the day.
Michael Piazza was 2-3 with a homer for the Saints.
Griffen Chewning had a 2 run bomb for NDP.
Eli Young was 3-4 for Gilbert and Tyler Dolniak homered.

Matthew Bachelier threw 3 scoreless innings with 6 Ks to get the W.

Westwood made the roadie to Yuma and brought back an 8-1 win over Kofa.

Junior Drew Bond and Sophomore Nalijah Alexander combined for a 5 inning no-hitter on Tuesday as the Vikings balnked Moon Valley 11-0.
Slope racked up 10 hits and 5 stolen bases for the game.
Bond, Nathan Wardell, Dylan Shillington, and Christian Perez all had 2 hit/2 RBI games.
