Thunder Rolls to PG Title
The Canyon Thunder 17U team failed to win their Pool over the weekend in the Perfect Game Underclass Fall National Championship, but the Thunder squeezed into bracket play as the #16 and final team. But just to prove that if you get into the show, anything can happen, the Thunder rolled their way through the next 4 games to claim the title.
The Thunder opened the playoffs with an 8-3 win over the #1 seeded CBA Wave out of California, and then smoked the SoCal Tribe 12-0 to set up a match with local rival T-Rex in a Monday morning semi-final.
T-Rex advanced into the semis with a 9-2 win over the West Coast Clippers. Notre Dame’s Jarrett Pille earned the W with relief help from Chaparral lefty Lucas Haugen
In the semi-final game, Corona del Sol sophomore David Utagawa took the mound for Canyon and proceeded to toss a complete game as the Thunder took a 4-1 win.
In the championship game, it was fellow Aztec sophomore Brian Webb who went the distance, shutting down a loaded SACSN National Team with 10 D1 commits, 7-1.
Pinnacle Junior infielder Nolan Brooks was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
