Williams Field Rallies late to Walk Off Ironwood Ridge
A Kyson Fuenetes single to lead off the 7th got things going for the Blackhawks. After a sac bunt advanced Fuentes to second, pinch runner Ty Kott came on. Trey Washburn then followed with a line drive single to left, scoring Kott with the tying run.
Ironwood Ridge brought in Nate Baez to try and kill the rally, and the senior quickly got a 3 pitch punch out for the second out of the inning.
Senior captain JC Carroll then stepped in and worked the count full. After 4 consecutive foul balls, Carroll ripped a line drive to left, plating Washburn with the walk off game winner.
The late rally spoiled an excellent outing by IR starter Josh Olenick. The junior worked 6 1/3 innings, scattering 8 hits and allowing a solo first inning run before the 7th.
WF starter Noah Marks tossed 4 1/2 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs while fanning 4 in a no decision. Fuentes earned the W, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings and surrendering only 2 hits.
Carol ended the day 2-4 with a double for WF.
For Ridge, Seth Nager was 3-3.
Kellis 9 Fairfax 8
Kellis rallied for 3 runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th to take a 9-8 win over Fairfax.
Nick Wylie went 2-4 with a triple, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for the Cougars.
Josh Wylie was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs, and earned the W on the hill, working a perfect 7th.
Fairfax starter Damien Tipton punched out 11 in 5 1/3 innings and allowed only 2 earned runs.
Desert Mountain 21 Ironwood 3 (5 Inn)
Elijah Henning went 4-4 with a pair of homers, a triple and 4 RBIs to lead a 21 hit attack as Desert Mountain smoked Ironwood 21-3.
7 DM hitters had multi hit days in the game.
Paul Sachen also homered.
Notre Dame 2 Centennial 0
Elmer Dessens threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and fannning 5 as Notre Dame blanked Centennial 2-0.
Blaze Borowski’s 2 out, 2 RBI sdouble in the first inning provided the game’s lone runs.
Centennial’s Kade Hamrick was the tough luck loser. Hamrick punched out 9 and allowed only 3 hits in 6 innings on the bump.
Cienega 15 Desert View 2 (5 Inn)
Luis Morales was 3-3 with a double and 5 RBIs as Cienega mercy ruled Desert View 15-2.
Braeden Mondeau was 2-2 with a double and 4 RBIs.
Cole Bramhall punched out 7 in 4 innings on the hill to pick up the W.
Salpointe 8 Nogales 5
Salpointe hung a 5th inning 6 spot and went on to drop 5A top ranked Nogales 8-5.
The Lancers took advantage of 3 Nogales errors and 6 walks to score 4 unearned runs.
Romeo Ballesteros was 4-4 for the Lancers.
Cade McGee doubled and drove in 2 runs.
Jaeden Swanberg threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and a solo run with 7 Ks to pick up the W.
Chuy Lopez had a pair of doubles for Nogales.
Cactus Shadows 2 Verrado 0
Senior lefty Matt Bohnert struck out 9 and allowed only one hit in 6 2/3 shutout innings as Cactus Shadows blanked Verrado 2-0.
Bohnert outdueled Verrado’s Rocky King, who allowed only 2 hits and one earned run in 6 innings with 4 Ks.
Horizon 11 North Canyon 1 (5 Inn)
Kody Huff was 3-4 with a double, a homer and 7 RBIs as Horizon run ruled North Canyon 11-1.
Kevin Justice and Logan Kershner each had 2 hits for the Huskies.
Sam Buchkowski threw 5 innings, fanned 6 and allowed 3 hits to get the W.
Sunnyslope 7 Thunderbird 5
Sunnyslope rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th and held off a late Thunderbird rally to take a 7-5 win.
Drew Bond punched out 8 and allowed 6 hits and 1 earned run to get the victory.
Bond was also 2-4 at the dish with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
